Process Mapping

A process map is a diagram showing all the steps involved in a process, along with individuals/departments completing the steps.  Some process maps even show time frame in which the task was completed, whether the task is value added or non-value added, and how long the task takes to complete, along with associated downtime.

Process maps are a great tool for identifying system gaps, repetition, loss, under or over production, disfunction, and most importantly, ways to improve the process.  Companies use process mapping exercise to analyze position functionality, product flow, implementing new automation (ex AI), eliminate system loss, and many other uses.  REDI specializes in facilitating Swimlane Process Mapping and Basic Process Mapping events.

Swimlane Process Mapping

Swimlane Process Maps organize tasks from start to finish by the individuals/teams/groups completing the tasks.  Each individual/team/group has their own lane in the diagram, mimicking a Swimlane.  Each task the responsible party completes falls into that responsible party’s lane.  Swimlane Process Maps are great for simplifying complex processes, production workflow, project management, customer service, and many others.

The benefits to using Swimlane Process Maps is that they eliminate responsibility confusion, improve task visibility, identify bottlenecks, eliminate redundancy, and allow cross functional teams to understand their role in the large scheme.

Swimlane Process Mapping Event

  • 5 Day Event
  • Requires cross functional team from each area of process
  • Thinking Lean exercises
  • Draw Current State Map
  • Issue Analysis
  • Complete Value and Complexity Analysis
  • Assign project owner
  • Develop action item lists, owners, and time frames.
  • Develop future-state map
  • Develop meeting cadence
  • REDI provides business with digital versions when complete.

Basic Process Mapping

Basic process maps can be utilized to map any process, system, or idea.  The goal is to include all individuals involved in process and tasks being completed.  REDI helps companies develop basic process maps to help them understand how to make them, their functionality, and purpose.

Basic Process Mapping Event

  • 1-2 Hours
  • Map a business’ current state process
  • Requires a cross functional group
  • Helps business visualize their current process and identify gaps
  • REDI provides business with digital versions when complete.
